About 2 years ago, I wrote a small MOD which allowed you to assign one of your installed styles to a single forum on your board and so overwrote your guests and users selected styles.
This feature was ported over by me from vBulletin based boards.
Main feature:
Allows you to assign an installed style to any of your forums on your phpBB. It can be extended to inherit style settings from parent forums. It has been tested together with SubForums+ (Subforums plus) and is known to work fine.
If you have several specific, not-connected sections on your board, then you can now apply different styles (and templates) to them.
Status:
This MOD has not been released to the public as of yet. A MOD compatible installation manual is not available at this moment.
If you are interested in publishing the MOD, then please post here. I will also post some screenshots the next few days.
Edit:

No, I didn't test it with Simple Subforums, just with Subforums+.
Information: The example board shown in the screenshots does not use any subforums MOD, as the files of the Board WITH the Subforums+ AND this MOD got deleted by accident. The additional style used in the example is just a slightly modified subSilver.
The style change per forum itself affects the following files:
modcp.php, posting.php, viewforum.php, viewtopic.php, admin/admin_forums.php, includes/constants.php, includes/functions.php, includes/functions_selects.php, language/lang_yourlang/lang_admin.php and templates/yourtemplate/admin/forum_edit_body.tpl.
